Bangkok attractions: temples, historical sites, Thailand

Details of current programmes and events can generally be found in Bangkok’s major English language newspapers, namely the Bangkok Post and The Nation. The theatres where cultural shows and plays are periodically held are as follows:

The National Theatre
Located on Na Phra That Road next to the National Museum. Call (02) 2241342 for a current programme.

Thailand Cultural Centre
Located on Ratchadaphisek Road, it is fully integrated venue for social education and cultural activities. Thai Life Permanent Exhibition can be seen on Mondays through Fridays from 9.30 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.. Call (02) 2470028 ext. 109 for a current programme.

Chalerm Krung Royal Theatre
Located on New Road near the Old Siam Plaza. Thai dramas, plays and performances are usually held while international films are featured occasionally during special film weeks. Call (02) 2258757-8, 2221325 for a current programme.

Bangkok Playhouse
Located on Phetchaburi Road. The theatre hosts contemporary plays. Call (02) 6798548, 3197641-4 for a current programme.

Zoo / Parks

Lumphini Park
This is the biggest park located in the center of business area and bordered by Rama IV Road, Sarasin Road and Witthayu Road. The park is popular among city dwellers who come to jog and practise Chinese Tai Chi. The artificial lake in the center is perfect for paddling. Musical shows are sometimes held in this spacious park.

Chatuchak Park
Chatuchak parkSituated next to the better known Chatuchak Weekend Market on Phahonyothin Road, Chatuchak Park is a nicely landscaped park and is considered the major park of Bangkok. This is a nice spot for relaxing after an exhausting shopping at the market.


King Rama IX Royal Park
The 200-acre park on Si Nakharin Road commemorates His Majesty King Rama IX’s 60th birthday in 1987. It comprises extensive botanical gardens, and a building displaying the works and life of King Rama IX. Admission fee is 10 baht.

Saranrom Park
It is an old park, originally a garden in the Saranrom Palace. It is not a big park but its perfect location makes it a good spot for relaxing after a visit to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. An old European style fountain faces the main gate. There are also some monuments including the memorial of Queen Sunantha Kumarirat who is King Rama V’s beloved consort.

Benchasiri Park
Located next to Emporium Shopping Center on Sukhumvit Road, the park was established to honor Her Majesty the Queen’s 60th birthday. It is a small but well kept and beautifully designed park.

Safari World
This is located at Km.9, Ram Indra Road, Minburi. The area of 170 acres is divided into 2 parts : the Safari Park and the Marine Park. The Safari Park has a large variety of wildlife in natural habitat. Visitors can drive their own cars, or have a look from Safari World’s coach. In the Marine Park, visitors can enjoy performances of well-trained animals like dolphins, birds, seals, and monkeys. Open daily from 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m.
